Ghee

Ghee or clarified butter is one of the healthiest options to cook with. It can be also used to be spread over bread, toast, or anything! It comes from the Ayurveda Medicine tradition and it is known to be a good source of healthy fats and Omega 3s. Ghee is made by removing the milk solids from the butter and its lactose content. I like to make my own ghee instead of buying it from the supermarket. This is how I do it:

Ingredients

  • 1 block of unsalted butter

  1. Place the butter in a pan or pot and let it melt

  2. When it is melted the solid white parts will come to the surface. Remove these with the help of a wooden spoon

  3. Continue until all the white parts have been removed and only a bright yellow liquid remains

  4. Transfer it to a glass jar and let it chill for some hours. It can be kept over the counter for about 3 months or up to a year in the refrigerator
